Venus Trading landed in Whitby before Captain Cook - The sailing vessel that is!

Established in 1978 Venus Trading continues to hold a unique position among Whitby's independent retailers of 'all things alternative'. Located on Sandgate, Venus Trading is ideally placed in Whitby's 'Old Town' area close to the market and cobbled Church Street on the way up to St Mary's Church, the 199 steps and of course Whitby Abbey. So you really don't have any excuse not to pop in for a browse at their super range of items for the more 'adventurous' at heart.

The moment you walk into the shop you will feel like you are in an Aladdin's cave full of hidden treasures and interesting artefacts. Just browsing their wares is a pleasure, taking in the colours, shapes and expertly crafted pieces would justify them charging an entrance fee! (Although there is no entrance fee to get in obviously).

The owners of Venus Trading spend a large part of the winter season sourcing new products that are not normally available on the high street. Today Venus Trading import and retail direct and they specialise in carvings, masks, clothes, lamps, jewellery and even musical instruments!
